Gloria Evette Ford Obituary

Gloria Ford was born to the late Bernice Thompson Evans and Charles E. Thompson, Sr. in Alabaster, AL. She spent her early childhood in Syracuse, NY but returned to Montevallo with her father and siblings as a young child where she lived until she meet and married James Alonzo Ford in 1969.

Alonzo would pass away before the birth of her eldest daughter Morgan LaFay. She would later give birth to her youngest daughter Wonique LaTasha and together she and Ronald Goode raised their daughters in Montevallo. Loria was a member of Ward Chapel AME Church, Montevallo, AL in her early years, and publicly confessed her love for Christ later in life and became a faithful member and usher at New Vision Christian Church, Helena, AL. Gloria was an extremely creative and artistic person, and she expressed her gifts in the arts early in her life with hobbies like drawing, sculpting, and knitting. She was also athletic and enjoyed activities like swimming, tennis, and roller skating; all hobbies and activities she would share with her girls as they were growing up. After the passing of her youngest daughter “Tasha” she relocated for a time to Columbus, GA but would later return to Montevallo where she remained until her death. Gloria began a career early in law enforcement as the first black female dispatcher for Helena Police Department and worked many years in law enforcement. She enjoyed many years as an enthusiastic team member at the University of Montevallo dinning services and would later in life join MSparks where she was a team member until she retired from the workforce at the age of sixty-five. Gloria was best known for her unforgettable smile and her infectious personality. She was sure to always be the life of every party or gathering and was a friend to all; filling the lives of those who loved her with an abundance of laughter and love. She was authentic, selfless, and unforgettable in every way. loria is preceded in death by her late husband Alonzo Ford, her sister, Angelia Thompson Allen, brother Robert Thompson, youngest daughter, LaTasha Ford, her farther Charles Thompson, and grandmother Sadie Burns. loria leaves behind to cherish her memories: one dutiful and loving daughter, Morgan (Cedric) Bryant of Montevallo, AL; mother Ethel Thompson, of Montevallo, AL; two sisters, Bernita Houser of Charlotte, NC; and Joyce (Michael) Jones of Pelham, AL; five brothers, Charles Thompson, II of Columbus, GA; Kelvin (Sabrina) Thompson of Hope Mills, NC; Elvin (Valerie) Thompson of Augusta, GA; James Evans of Las Vegas, NV; and Hanif Ali of Atlanta, GA; two Grandsons TreMikel McClendon (Gloria) and Xavier Bryant; three Great grandchildren, McKenzie Horton, Ziayana and Kyrie McClendon; and her brother-in-law Rev. Van (Kendralyn) Houser as well as a host of loving nieces and nephews who she was extremely fond and proud of and many more extended family members, a loving church family, and an abundance of friends. 

A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at New Vision Christian Center Church in Helena, AL.
