Fate Bryant Sr. was born on September 2, 1948, in Shelby, AL to Warnell and Mamie Lee Sexton Bryant. He confessed Christ at an early age and joined Providence Baptist Church Shelby, AL.
He was educated at the Shelby County Training School System, he went back to school at N.A Nunnelley State Technical College and received his electrician degree, he then was hired on at Alabama Power Company where he worked for 33 years until he retired in 2010. He was the owner of Lawn Service (Lawn Boy) for 10 years until he sold it, he was also employed with the Shelby County Board of Education for 11 years until he retired in December 2023.
Later in life he met and married the Love of his life Doris Ann Carter to this union 4 kids were born, later they decided to adopt a little boy.
He was a member of Providence Baptist Church Shelby, AL where he served as Deacon, Sunday school teacher, Adult Class teacher, Children’s teacher, and Treasurer for many years.
He then was Pastor of Mountain Missionary Baptist Church from 2001-2005 under Fate leadership at Mountain he moved church service from 2 Sundays a month to having church service every Sunday, he increased membership from 10 to 60 members, increased the financial statue. The church was able to purchase a church van, copy machine, and install phones in church under his leadership.
Later he pastored Mount Sinia Baptist Church in Alpine, AL from 2006-2009.
He then said all he wanted to do was help others by teaching them about the Bible, so he returned to school and attended Tennessee school of Religion Extension course in Montevallo, AL for 7 years. He received his Diploma in Theology, Diploma of Christian Education, Diploma of Christian Training, and he attended Baptist Bible College for 4 years in Birmingham, AL.
He later became an Associate Pastor at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Columbiana, AL under the leadership of Richard Kidd for 10 years. He then moved his membership to Rock of Faith/ Providence Baptist Church as the Associate Pastor under the leadership of Harry Jones until his death.
He was the first African American Head Coach for Columbiana city League Baseball and Football. He also coached an adult women Softball team for many years. (Cannonballs).
Rev. Fate Bryant Sr. was proceeded in death by his parents and brothers Willie Henry, Fred, Earl Lee, Johnny and James Bryant and sisters Janie Blanchard and Fannie Lilly.
He leaves to cherish his memories of 56 years a loving and devoted wife, Doris Carter Bryant; his children: Fate (Rebecca) Bryant of Shelby, AL, Anita (Derek) Herndon of Columbiana, AL, Derrick Bryant of McCalla, AL, Carlos Bryant of Calera, AL, and Terry Bryant of New York; siblings: Doris Threat of Calera, AL and Horace Bryant of Childersburg, AL; four sisters-in-law: Gwendolyn Harris, Sandra Montgomery, Loretta Carter, and Alfreda Bryant-Pope; one brother-in-law, Anthony Ray Carter; 21 Grandkids, 34 great grandkids and a childhood/classmate best friend, Charles Barnette; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Viewing will be held Friday, Feb. 16, 2024, from 4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. at The Good Shepherd.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024, at 12:00 Noon at Columbiana United Methodist Church in Columbiana with Interment at Columbiana City Cemetery.
