Reverend Dr. William Thomas Evans, Sr.

William T. Evans, Sr. was born May 9, 1928 to the late Tommy and Margaret Evans of Jachin, Alabama.  Reverend Dr. William’s early education was received at Choctaw County Schools. His higher education included completion of Lawson State and at Birmingham Baptist College where he received his Bachelor of Theology degree.  In addition, Reverend William T. Evans, Sr. also attended Southeastern Bible college, Brooklane Academy and as well as Billy Graham Evangelist School.  Also, Reverend Dr. Evans served many years as an Chaplain at Shelby Baptist Hospital in Alabaster, Alabama.

Rev. Dr. William T. Evans served in the Korean War in 1951, the same time he accepted his calling into ministry.   Rev. Evans was called to pastor St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church Wylam, Alabama (1964); Mt. Sinai Baptist, Montevallo, Ala. (1966); Union Missionary Baptist Church, Columbiana, Ala. (1969); Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, Montevallo, Ala. (1971) and the ultimate calling was in 1975 under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Evans, Faith Missionary Baptist Church was established.

Pastor Evans has dedicated his life to God and secondly to mankind.  Reverend Evans work has exemplified his Christ- like Christian attitude.  His services serve as the light for men and women in all walks of life to follow. He constantly leaves footprints in the sands of time that would stand for generations to come. He has talked the talk,walked the walk and led by example. He is the father and grandfather to many in the ministry, constantly delivering the message of Love and Togetherness.

 He has stood by the wordsof Proverbs 3:6, “In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths.”

In January 31, 1963, he united in marriage to Deloris Cross Evans and to this union four children were born:  William Evans Jr., Orlando Antonio, Thaddeus Jerome and Chantaye Lea.  Also, a grandson, Phillip G. Evans, who was raised like a son by Rev. Evans.

On Monday, January 18, 2021, Reverend Dr. Evans finished his course and met his Savior.  He was preceded in death by his son, Minister Thaddeus Jerome Evans.

He leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted, loving wife of almost fifty eight years, Deloris C. Evans; three children; William Jr. (Chrystalla); Orlando, Thaddeus Sr. (deceased; Adrienne) and Chantaye Carhee (Winston); three sisters, Grace Naylor (George); Claree Bonner (Robert (deceased) and Marcile Wolford); sister-in- law, Christine Lancaster (Felton); eleven grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. A host of niece, nephews, friends; a special counsin, Kathlyn Lathion (Cat), a very special “angel” (grand daughter Ashley) and the whole Faith Missionary Baptist Church.

Viewing will be held Thursday, January 21 from 4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. at The Good Shepherd Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, January 22, 2021 at Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Montevallo at 12:00 Noon with burial at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo.  Because of Covid the CDC guidelines will be followed at the Church and the Cemetery.
