Alonzo Franklin Evans

was born alone with a twin brother, to  the late Robert and Cora Jenkins Evans on October 11, 1935 in Montevallo, Alabama.

Alonzo attended the Shelby County School System.  Although a very astute student, He did not achieve his High School diploma.

Alonzo lived the majority of his life in Almont, loving attended Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church as a youth and throughout his lifetime. As a young man, he moved to Detroit, Michigan in search of employment.  While he was there, he worked various jobs including Ford Motor Company, where he secured his younger brother, Alex Evans, a position before returning home to Alabama.

Once back home, he obtained a job with the newly opened Food Center in Montevallo.  He would also go on to work for the University of Montevallo in the kitchen area for many years.

Illness and health problems plagued him during the last twenty or more years of his life slowly disabling him.  Once unable to care for himself, he was placed in Chandler Health and Rehabilitation Center where he lived out the remainder of his life.  Alonzo took his last breath on December 29, 2018 at what is now called Ahava Health Care of Alabaster.

He was preceded in death by his infant twin brother, Robert F. Evans, Jr, his older half brother, Rev. Robert Stanton (Francis) Brookhaven, MS. and a dear and devoted friend and companion Johnnie D. Williams.

He leaves to cherish his memories, two sisters, Naomi M. Evans, Montevallo, AL, Willie L. Cunningham, Detroit, MI; two brothers, Joseph I. Evans, Stockton, CA and Alex L. Evans (Lizzie) Detroit, MI,  a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and care givers.
