Alvin Meridth Nelson, age 75, passed away on August 22, 2022, in MICU at Shelby Brookwood Baptist Medical Center with his wife of thirty-three plus year, Carolyn K. Nelson, at his bedside. Alvin was born on February 9, 1947, to Elijah and Loeva Nelson in Montevallo, Alabama. He attended school in the Shelby County School system, graduating from Prentice High School in 1965. Alvin joined the Army; there he served as a paratrooper during the Vietnam War era. Upon completion of his tour of duty, he moved to Detroit, Michigan where he worked at Ford Motor Company and the United States Postal Service. Alvin was a member of the Anthropos, an affiliate group of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Incorporated, Nu Chapter, Birmingham, AL. Alvin was preceded in death by father, Elijah; mother, Loeva; brothers Walter Nelson; Elijah Nelson (Annette); George Nelson (Betty); Frank Nelson, and sisters Mary Leblanc (Claudell); Olivia Ferguson; and Stella Nelson. Alvin is survived by wife, Carolyn K. Nelson; sons: Keith Nelson; Daryl Nelson; Alvin Nelson, Jr.; Derek C. Nelson (Kierra); and daughter Aisha Tene Holmes Thorn (James); sister Anne Cutts; brother Ira Joe Nelson (Audrey); five grandchildren: Patrick Nelson, Adam Nelson, Jeremiah Nelson (Daryl);Raegan Nelson (Alvin, Jr.) and King Nelson (Derek); sisters in law Annette Nelson, Phoenix, AR; Kathyrn King Smith, Bessemer, AL; brothers-in-law David King (Arnell), Omaha, NB; Philip King (Rubie) Riverchase, AL; Roosevelt King (Catherine) McCalla. AL; and Albert King, Alabaster, AL.; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, and two very close friends David Summerlin and Lester Arnold. A Service of Memory will be held Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at 12:30 P.M. at Alabama National Cemetery 3133 Highway 119 with Military Honors in Montevallo, AL. Apostle Calvin J. Meadows – Officiating
