Deacon Benjamin
Kornegay
January 6, 1951 – March 25, 2019
~Obituary ~
Benjamin Franklin Kornegay
was born to the late Reverend George Paul and Minnie Sue Kornegay on January 6, 1951 in Brent, AL. Benjamin, which means, "Son of My Right Hand," found the secret of life when he received Jesus the Christ as his Lord and Savior. Thus, at an early age, Benjamin was baptized and became an active servant at Hopewell African Methodist Episcopal Zion (AMEZ) Church. This unwavering truth, faith and commitment to the Triune God would forever define his life and legacy.
Benjamin was a graduate of Bibb County High School in 1970. Benjamin was employed at UniRoyal Goodrich Tuscaloosa, AL, where he was characterized as "the model employee" for the past 30+ years. He retired in 2017. Benjamin was also an avid outdoorsman. He loved carpentry and hunting.
Benjamin married his best friend, Brenda Jean Lockett on July 27, 1985. Their children, Kenderick Ray Lockett, (FL), and Kandace Katrice, (Hoover), and three grandchildren, Adrease, Marquez and Kentrell are the couple's greatest blessing. Benjamin lived by this simple motto; "Working on being the kind of HUSBAND my wife
deserves is going to be my secret weapon to being the
kind of DAD my children and grandchildren need."
Upon marriage, Benjamin joined Word of Faith Worship Center where he served many roles; namely, Head Deacon, Treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent and any other role as assigned by the Pastor.
Benjamin is survived by his beloved wife, Brenda, aforementioned children and grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy (Chicago), Annie (Centreville), Donnie (Charles), Montevallo; three brothers, Arthur (Chicago), Donald (Dorothy) Brent, and Ronnie; and a village of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Benjamin's journey across the River Jordan was preceded by his parents, Reverend George Paul and Minnie Sue Kornegay, one sister; Gloria, four brothers, Arthur Paul, George Jr., Earvin, Joel, and one nephew, Brian Keith.
