Sister Deloris Cross Evans

Sis. Deloris C. Evans was born on March 13, 1937 to the late Dave Cross and Ida B. Parham Cross (pumpkin) in Scooba, Mississippi.  Sis. Deloris Evans early education was received at Kemper County (Mississippi) schools. She had a servant heart and a ministry mind set; therefore, she moved to Birmingham, Alabama after high school.  Sis. Deloris C. Evans helped her uncle Rev. R.H. Thompkins ("uncle Rev.") as pastor of Galilee Baptist Church.

Sis. Deloris C. Evans (known as "Sis. Evans", "Dee", Aunt Lois, and Mama Evans") had a gift of Patience and teaching that allowed her to work with infants, toddlers, and special needs children.

Sis. Deloris C. Evans decided to take classes at Miles College for early childhood education.

In addition, Sis. Deloris Evans was a teacher for 25 years of A.B.C. Daycare and Kindergarten in Homewood, Alabama. She had a "Love" for encouraging people with her soft voice and kind words.

As Sis. Deloris Evans served in many auxiliaries at her uncle's church, one Sunday she met this handsome, small in stature, God -fearing man.  So, on January 31, 1963, Sis. Evans united in marriage to the late Rev. Dr. William T. Evans, Sr. and to this union four children were born.

Sis. Deloris Evans served as a pastor's wife for a total of fifty years and thirty-nine years was at the Faith Baptist Church in Montevallo, Alabama.  As a pastor's wife, Sis. Deloris C. Evans always knew her place, acted like a lady, accepted everyone as her friend and greeted you with a smile and warm personality. Like Ruth, Sis. Evans loved with grace, poise, and strength.  Most of all, Sis. Evans showed so much "Godly wisdom" on how to become that Proverbs 31: 10 -19 woman.

Sis. Deloris Evans has dedicated her life to God and then her family (secondly).  Sis. Evans love exude for helping people in life; therefore, she was a member of Faith Baptist Missionary Society, president of the Deacons and Minister's wives committee.  She often would tell "her Reverend", "we are a team on the journey for the Lord."   Sis. Evans always said, "Do what you have to do, Rev., I will be by your side."

Sis. Deloris C. Evans was handpicked by God for it takes someone special to endure the trials of a pastor's wife.  Anyone who were around them knew that she was his "Bae", and he was "Reverend".

Sis. Deloris Evans was the person he (Reverend) turned to when he needed a friend.

On Sunday night, January 31, 2021, Sister Deloris C. Evans slipped away to be with the heavenly Father And "her Reverend".

She was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Dr. William T. Evans, Sr., son minister Thaddeus J. Evans, Sr. and granddaughter, Tekahri D. Evans.

The memories of her life will forever be shared by her children: William T. Evans, Jr. (Chrystalla), Orlando Antonio, Chantaye L. Carhee (Winston),Adrienne Evans and a grandson he raised, Phillip Evans (Ashley); a "special angel", Ashley Evans; one sister, Christine Lancaster (Felton); eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A very special cousin, Kathlyn Lathion (Cat); four god daughters/friends like no other, Mrs. Carol White, Roslyn and Dolazella Smitherman and Joyce Tolbert; a special cousin, Willie B. Willams ("babysister").  A host of nieces, nephews, friends; and the whole Faith Baptist Church.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, February 12, 2021 at 12:00 Noon at Faith Baptist Church in Montevallo with interment at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL.

Viewing will be held Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021 from 4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. There will be a private Family Hour at The Funeral Home from 6:00 -7:00P.M.
