Diana Anita
Coleman
November 30, 1950 – January 6, 2025
Diana Anita Coleman was born on November 30, 1950, to the late Edward William Coleman and Warrine Smitherman Coleman Edwards. She was raised by her grandparents, Virgil and Charity Smitherman, who also predeceased her, along with her uncles and aunts—Charles Smitherman, Pearl Alexander, Lillie Bell Smitherman, Joy Ann Smitherman, Virgil "Ed" Smitherman, and Roy Smitherman—who were brought up alongside her like siblings.
Diana graduated from Prentice High School in Montevallo, AL, before earning her bachelor's degree in Speech and Hearing Therapy from the University of Montevallo. She later obtained her Nursing Degree from Wallace State Community College. Diana became a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., as well as The Order of The Eastern Star. She dedicated over 35 years of service as a Registered Nurse (RN) at Shelby Baptist Medical Center, retiring as a Charge Nurse. Her commitment extended beyond her profession, as she was actively involved in her church community.
In her early years, she joined Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Almont, Alabama, and later became a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor W. T. Evans. Diana served on various Boards and Committees, including Trustee, President of the Young Adult Ministry, President of the Pastor's Aide Committee, President of the Nurses Guild, Usher Board, and Choir. Her dedication to the church remained strong until her health began to decline, at which point she began attending Freewill Ministries in Alabaster, Alabama, under the guidance of her brother, Pastor Larry Coleman.
As her health deteriorated, she was lovingly cared for by her nephew, Carlos Coleman, during her final years.
Diana leaves behind cherished memories with her beloved Jasmine Coleman, her stepmother Cordelia Coleman of Eastvale, California, her siblings: Pastor Larry (Mary) Coleman of Montevallo, Alabama, Carolyn (Kelvin) Kelly of Gadsden, Alabama, Maxine Edwards of Bessemer, Alabama, Carl (Demitria) Coleman of Lancaster, California, Wanda Coleman of Anaheim, California, Barry (Lori) Coleman of Eastvale, California, Valerie (Anthony) Nettles of Eastvale, California, April (Lonnell) Sanders of Corona, California, David (Carla) Smith of Gardena, California, as her brother- James (Maggie) Smitherman of Pleasant Grove, as well as her devoted nephew Carlos Coleman, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
