Dorothy Jean Moore Smith was born on September 29, 1953, in Brierfield, AL, to the late Hosey D. Moore and Betty M. Moore (Carter). She confessed Christ at an early age and joined Carlton Hill Missionary Baptist Church (Brierfield, AL). Dorothy later became a member for many years at Rehobeth Baptist Church. In 2002, Dorothy returned back to her family home church, Carlton Hill Missionary Baptist Church. She was a very active member of the church and known to everyone simply as "Sister Smith". During her membership there, she served as a secretary, treasurer and head kitchen coordinator, until God called her home.
Dorothy attended the H.D. Davidson High School in Centreville, AL. She was a matron of the Eastern Star - Moore's Chapter 499 Brierfield for many years. She was employed at the University of Montevallo Dining Hall for well over twenty years. Dorothy was known for her hospitality, laughter and witty sense of humor. Most of all, she was known for her passion to be in the kitchen. She loved to cook and always "put her foot" in every dish she prepared.
Dorothy was united in marriage to the late James E. Smith, Sr. and to this unionthree children were born.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories: her children, one son, James E. (Manuela) Smith of Alabaster, AL; daughters, Gwendolyn Smith, Martisha Mahone both of Birmingham, AL; twelve grandchildren, Ebony, Taisha, Toriana, Jazmine, Camreon, Mi' kel, Tyseon, Jakylian, Zakerius, Jameson, Jamilynn, Jamie; seven great grandchildren, McKinley, MaKiyah, Jaron Jr., Javion, Leilani, Caylen, Ma'Kailyn; siblings, Hosea (Twanda) Moore of Montevallo, AL, Mary Bullard of Brierfield, AL; uncles, Willie (Nettie) Carter of Tuscaloosa, AL, Charles Carter of Wilton, AL, whom she thought of as a brother and bestfriend; a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her niece, Mary Shanice Bullard Taylor.
