Elijah Nelson, Jr.
Born September 16, 1930 to the late Loeva and Elijah Nelson, Sr.
He was raised in Montevallo, Alabama and received formal education from Prentice High School. He left school to work in Boothton Coal Mine.
He served in the US Military – Army branch in the Korean War. During this time he received the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.
He later retired from Carrier Corporation of Syracuse, New York with forty five years of service. After retirement, he returned home and joined Liberty Missionary Baptist Church in Alabaster, Alabama where he served on the trustee board under the leadership of Rev. Van C. Houser.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter Lee Nelson, Frank Nelson and George Nelson; one sister, Olivia Ferguson.
His journey came to an end on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at his home in Tempe, Arizona.
He leaves to cherish his memories a wife, Annette Nelson, Alabaster, AL; five sons, Elijah Nelson, Jr., Timothy (Davonna) Nelson, Sr., Terance (Kelly) Nelson, Sr., Rodrick (Sonya) Nelson, all of Syracuse, NY, Marquel Nelson, Tempe, AZ; two daughters, Brenda Hill, Syracuse, NY and Ahsjanae Nelson, Alabaster, AL; three sisters, Ann Cutts, Montevallo, AL, Mary (Caludell) LeBlanc, San Francisco, CA and Stella Nelson, NY; two brothers, Alvin (Carolyn) Nelson, Montevallo, AL and Joe (Audrey) Nelson, Detroit, MI.; ten grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; a host of other nieces, nephews and friends who shall miss him dearly.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, Mar. 8, 2019 at 11:30 A.m. at Soldiers of The Cross Ministries in Alabaster with burial at Alabama National Cemetery with Military Honors in Montevallo, AL. Rev. Danita Ryan Pastor: Rev. Van House –Eulogist
