Elizabeth Ivy Britton was born to the union of Carrie & John Wesley Williams on May 29th, 1936. She departed this life at the age of 87, on the evening of December 21, 2023, surrounded by her family & friends.
Ivy was born & raised in Chicago, IL. She attended St. Joseph grammar school, graduated from St. Malachy High School, then attended Xavier & Kennedy-King colleges in Chicago. She worked many years for Spiegels Mail Order Company as a collector, after Spiegel moved to the suburbs, she worked for the Jewish Federation of Chicago, from there she retired.
She was married to James Williams, Sr., to this union two children were born, Regina Carol Walker & James Alan Williams. She later married Lawler Britton to whom she remained married to for over 30 years, until his death in 2000. After retiring they both moved to Columbiana, AL. In Columbiana she worked for the Columbiana & Shelby County Public Libraries. She loved to read & be a member of one of the book clubs in Columbiana. They loved to bowl & travel. Bowling allowed her to travel all over the United States.
She was a member of several social clubs in Chicago. She became a member of The First Baptist Church of Wilsonville, she was a faithful member & was also a member of the Missionary Society, founder & treasure of the building fund & on the board of trustees. She became the oldest member of the church. She loved Sunday School Classes, her church & it's members.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Carrie; father, John; brothers, Theodore & Elton; sisters Margaret & Edith.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her loving daughter, Regina & son in law Alexander Walker (Maywood, IL); Her loving son, James Alan Williams (Wahiawa, Hawaii); Grandchildren, Brandon Walker, Alexis Walker, Angela Walker-Taylor (Sebondal); Great grandchildren, Essence Walker, Bryce Walker, Jayla Taylor, Justin Taylor & Britton Walker; Believe it or not she became a great grandmother to Shiloh (The Dog); Sister, Brenda Nash; Brother, Ronald Miller, a host of nieces & nephews; Two very dear friends, Mattie Berry & Barbara Buckner; & her favorite person from the church, Pearl Pickett.
Visitation Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023, at 10:45 A.M. – 12:00 Noon at First Baptist Church Wilsonville, AL.
Celebration of Life Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023, at 12:00 Noon at First Baptist Church with Interment Columbiana City Cemetery.
