Emma Jean Lacey Faulks

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith" 2 Timothy 4:7 Emma Jean Lacey Faulks was born on December 3, 1938 in West Calera, Shelby County, Alabama, and departed this life on July 1, 2020 at Grandview Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. She was the oldest of four children born to the late Rev. John Henry and Margaret Mevelyn Lee Hale Lacey. Preceding her in death were her husband, Jeff Davis Faulks, her parents, one sister, Sarah Jo Lacey Fletcha, and one brother, Curtis Edward Lacey Sr. At an early age, she began her Christian journey and confessed her hope and faith in Jesus Christ and united with Mountain Missionary Baptist Church, Calera, Alabama. She was baptized during the leadership of Rev. W.E. Parnell. Her employment took her to Oneonta, Alabama. After she returned to Warrior Alabama, she united with the First Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board as President and Treasurer, The trustee Board as Secretary, the Finance committee, the Education Committee and Vacation Bible School. She later was united with Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Wilton, Alabama under the leadership of Rev. A.L. Jones. Emma's education was in the public school system of Shelby County, Calera Elementary and Prentice High School. She furthered her education at Alabama State College (University), earning her Bachelor of Science Degree in History-Library Science and then continued to earn her Master's Degree in Library Media from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Emma dedicated her professional career to working with the public school system. She worked at Oneonta City Schools, Cincinnati Public Schools, Internal Revenue Services, Public Library of Cincinnati &Hamilton County, Birmingham Public Library, and Fairfield City Schools. She retired from C.J. Donald Elementary School in June, 2002. Emma was also involved in the community as a member of the National Education Association, Alabama Education Retirees Association, and Alabama Education Association Retired, American Association of Retired Professionals. She was the first African American City Councilor in Warrior, Alabama from 1991-1995. She was a member of Warrior Court of Appeals and Adjustments. Ms. Emma Faulks leaves to cherish her precious memories: a loving and devoted adopted daughter/niece Valerie (Glenn), Jacquese Lacey Taylor of Calera, Alabama; one brother John Henry Lacey Jr. of Calera, Alabama; Aunt Mary Louise Lacey of Maryland; Uncle Johnny Lee (Nellie Ruth) of Columbiana, Alabama, two sisters-in-law, Willie Marie Faulks Porter of Warrior, Alabama and Carrie Faulks Givhan of Birmingham, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Emma leaves the runway with many relatives and friends who will miss her history remembrances and her quiet spoken voice.
