Geraldine Diane Young was born on July 1, 1956 to the late T.C. and Lillie Mae Young. She was the baby of ten beautiful children. Diane confessed Christ at an early age and joined Waymon Chapel AME Church, during her membership she was the church secretary, Sunday School teacher and superintendent. She later joined Ward Chapel AME Church in 2018, where she was on the trustee board, missionary society, Willing Worker committee, and choir member. She remained a member until her demise. Diane was a graduate of Bibb County High School Class of 1974. She obtained an associates degree from Nunnelly College. Throughout her lifetime she was employed as an OB tech at Shelby Medical Center. In 1985 she became the store manager at Hardee's until 2005. She served on several volunteer committees: Brierfield Volunteer Fire Department Board, on the voting poll, meals on wheels, Silver Club, and Shelby County RSVP. Diane was an eastern star for 50 years and just received her 50 year plaque in February. Diane loved everyone and had an infectious smile, that will truly be missed. On September 13, 2024, God called our angel on earth home. She leaves to cherish her memories; her children, Shaketa (Demetrius) Baker, Shameka (David) Chism, Shamel (Jameke) Young, Antonio (Monique) Young, Taneeka Young; Her four boys as she would say, DeUnte Holman, Jarius Grimsley, KeUndre' Chism and Jasiah DuBose; Brothers, Rev. Charles (Ruth) Young, Benny (Elizabeth) Young, Albert Young, Clifton Young; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents T.C. and Lillie Mae Young; siblings: Vera Mae Cottingham, Theodis Young Sr., Roxie Sims Lightfoot, Thomas Young, and Gladys Jean Young.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, Sept. 20, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. at Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church in Montevallo, AL with Interment at Ebenezer Cemetery in Brierfield.
