Bro. James L. Bailey was born on January 30, 1940, to the late Walter and Lula Bailey in Brent, Alabama.

He was introduced to Christ at an early age and became a member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church in Brent, Alabama. As a young man, he joined the Mount Tabor Lodge 239A as a Free Mason. He then moved up north and stayed in multiple states but later came back to his home state and resided in Brent, Alabama. In his later years, he started attending Antioch Baptist Church in Brent, Alabama and joined under the leadership of Pastor Terry Bell. Bro. Bailey loved God and always asked about his church through his last days.

On June 30th, Bro. Bailey was called home to be with the Lord. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Lula Bailey; his brothers; Luvert and Johnnie Lee Bailey; his sister, Eleanor Bailey; his aunt, Mary Eliza Hurt; and two grandsons, Enorch T. Holman and Rodrecus Moore.

He leaves to cherish his memory: one daughter, Cassandra Crews of Centreville, AL; four sons, Roger (Jacqueline) Sheppard of Centreville, AL; Willie James (Diane) Sheppard, Enorch F. Holman, both of Brent, AL, Vincent Crews Sr. of Jacksonville, FL; one brother, JD Bailey of Brent, AL; ten grandchildren, Broderick (Monica Hubbard) Crayton, Nakeisha (Demetris) Jones, Roger Sheppard Jr., Marcus (Ebony) Sheppard, Sade Archie, Raven Crews, Sierra Crews, Alexandria Crews, Jenorie E. Smith, Vincent Crews Jr.; a special nephew, Terry (Mary) Bell; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Viewing will be held Friday, July 7, 2023, from 4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. at The Good Shepherd.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 8, 2023, at 12:00 noon at Word of Faith Worship Center Centreville, Alabama
