Obituary

Jewel Dean Cathey Peoples was born in Wilsonville, AL to the late Samuel Cathey & Ola Wilson Cathey on August 7, 1943. She accepted Christ at an early age at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. She attended Prentice High School in Montevallo, AL.

She loved family, friends, dancing & cooking.

Jewel completed her journey and entered eternal rest on May 8,

2026. She was preceded in death by: her parents; son, Glen Jr.

Peoples; brothers, Lester Cathey, David Cathey, Ellis Cathey, Desi Cathey, James E. Cathey, Jruby Cathey; sisters, Willie Ree McCary, Elizabeth Cathey; grandson, Benjamin (BJ) Peoples Jr; two great grandsons, Amarionne Bivins and Kaleb Billings.

She leaves behind a legacy that will continue through her cherished family; four sons: Benjamin (Lisa) Peoples, of Montevallo, Alabama, Kenneth Peoples of Calera, Alabama, Rodney Peoples of Montevallo, Alabama, Thaddeus (Mary) Peoples of Calera, Alabama; eleven grandchildren:

Shanetra (Antionne) Bivins, with whom she shared a unique bond, Glen (Shasta) McKenzie, Benjamin Bivins, Chan (Marshon) Ford, Bernard (Cariaundra) Bivins, Shakita Staffney, Bennisha (Justin) Fields, Thaddeus Staffney, Rodney (Julia) Billings, Shannon Talley, and Skilar Talley; 15 loving great grandchildren; one brother, Frank Cathey of Fayetteville, North Carolina; one sister, Linda Cathey Brown of Cleveland, Ohio; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly.
