Reverend Jimmy Rogers Underwood, Sr.

was born November 17, 1929 in Whatley, Alabama to the late John Preston Underwood and Rosie Lee Underwood.

He was born again and filled with the Holy Ghost in 1962. He became appointed Pastor of Alabaster AOH Church of God in 1972 and served as pastor until 2015. After retiring from pastoring he joined Soldiers of the Cross Ministries in Alabaster, AL, under the leadership of his daughter, Pastor Danita Ryan.

He loved and was a blessing to every person he encountered. He was a true man of God.

He served 4 years in the Army and was a Veteran of the Korean War.

He was Chaplin for the Shelby County Jail in the late 70s and early 80s as well as the Thompson High School Chaplin in the early 80s.

He was one of the founders of the Alabaster Suburban League Association. He played a big part in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. He worked as a Poll Worker for over 25 years. He retired from Griffin Wheel after 32 years of service and served as President of his Local Union for over 10 years at Griffin Wheel. In 2015 he was presented with the Community Star Award from Providence Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eloise Underwood: one brother, Jesse Underwood, one sister, Mary Francis Underwood, one niece, Benita Dudley and one son-in-law, Michael Schneiberg.

He departed this life on Monday, December 10, 2018 at the VA Hospital Birmingham where he was surrounded by love ones.

He leaves to cherish his memories six children, Janice Schneiberg of Birmingham, AL, Valerie McCarter of Alabaster, AL, Jimmy (Cynthia) Underwood Jr. of Pelham, AL, Danita (Johnny) Ryan of Montevallo, AL, Elvie (John) Schooley of Montevallo, AL and Willie Underwood of Alabaster, AL.: four nephews, Randy (Tina) Underwood of Dayton, Ohio, James Underwood of Mililani Town, Hawaii, Thomas Underwood of Daytona Beach, FL and Reginald Dudley of Birmingham, AL: three nieces, Rachael McWilliam of Atlanta, GA, Nina Underwood and Rosie Underwood both of Toledo, OH; twenty-four grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of the Life and Legacy of Rev. Underwood will be held Friday, Dec. 14, 2018 at 11:30 A.M. at New Vision Christian Church 2383 County Road 95 Helena , AL

with interment at Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo AL with Military Honors.

Visiitation will be at the Funeral home on Thursday, Dec. 13 from 1:00 -7:00 p.m.
