Obituary

Brother Joe Lewis Gilbert, Sr. "Roy Lee" was born in Brierfield, Alabama to the late Julius and the late Mary Gilbert on October 20, 1936.

He confessed Christ at an early age and joined Carlton Hill Missionary Baptist Church.  He worked all his life to make a better life for his family.  He retired from Southern Cement – He never missed a day of work.

He would give his last to help someone.  He would always greet you with a smile.

Brother Gilbert was preceded in death by, his first wife, Annie Gilbert; brothers, Jessie, James, Robert, Jube, Rich and Isiah; sisters, Frances Conwell, Mary Parker and Carrie Davis; two sons, Terry Gilbert and Dewight Gilbert.

On April 23, 2019, the Lord called him home.

He leaves to cherish his memory a daughter, JoAnn Howard, Columbia, South Carolina; four sons, Kenneth (Marva) Gilbert, Montevallo, AL, Ronnie(Denise) Gilbert, Sr., Centreville, AL, Marvin (Jacqueline) Gilbert, Brierfield, AL and Joe L. (Tanisha) Gilbert, Jr., Birmingham, AL., twenty six grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren; brother, Jimmy Gilbert; sister, Ruby Hill; in laws, Dorothy Gilbert, Linnie Mae Young, Gloria (Leroy) Goode, Frank Peoples, Roy E (Estella) Peoples and Leroy Deviner; an abundance of precious nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at  Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Wilton, AL with burial at Carton Hill Cemetery in Brierfield. Pastor Charles Valentine - Officiating
