Obituary

known as "Grandma" to most was born on February 11, 1938 to the late Sammie and Carrie Speigner.

She confessed Christ at an early age and joined Freewill Baptist Church in Alabaster, AL. She was united in holy matrimony to the late James Charles "Jake Cat" Cunningham of Shelby County, AL.

Ms. Lula Jean Cunningham was a hard-working mother and a devoted grandmother to her grandkids and their friends. She had a sharp tongue, but always sacrificed her needs for the good of those around her, so you knew that you were loved.

She loved watching The Five Heartbeats, The Color Purple, and listening to Mahalia Jackson.

She departed this life on February 20, 2019 at Ahava Healthcare in Alabaster, AL of natural causes.

She was preceded in death by two brothers Albert Speigner and Sammie Lee Speigner Jr

She leaves to cherish one Son Johnny Ray (Annette) Speigner and two daughters Dorothy Jean Askew and Cynthia (Richard) Russell, one Aunt Rosie Lee Posey of Pell City, one Uncle George "Punkin" Marie Green; Two sisters-in-law Mammie Speigner and Leola Speigner; ten grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sat. Mar. 2, 2019 at 12:00 Noon at Soldiers of The Cross Church in Alabaster with burial at Galilee Cemetery in Saginaw.
