(Purnell) Jones
May 27, 1926 – April 18, 2017
Matriarch Mary Louise Purnell Jones was born May 22, 1926, to the late Herman and Sallie Purnell in Montevallo, Alabama. She attended Elementary and Middle School in Columbiana, AL, and later moved to Toledo, Ohio to complete her High School education.
She confessed Christ at an early age and joined Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church. She was a great servant in the choir, Missionary, Willing Workers and church auxiliaries. She was named"Senior of the Year 2015." Among other awards throughout her life, she was named"Outstanding Citizen"by the city of Montevallo. Her list of community volunteer services will forever be remembered by many. She was united in holy matrimony to Albert J. Jones, Jr. on September 21, 1947. She departed this life on April 18, 2017, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Sallie Purnell; five siblings; Maude (Sister), James (Snook), Samuel (Bud), Betty, half-sister Bennie;a lovingand devoted husband, Albert J. Jones Jr.;daughter Mary Gene Jones DuBose, son Charles T. Jones, and granddaughter, Gabrielle D. Easley.
She leaves to cherish her memory: three daughters, LouAnne, Tanta (Johnny), Marla (Keith); two sons, Albert (Joyce), Herman; daughter-in-law Alberta; 15 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren;one sister-in-law Marie Purnell, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends. Ms. Mary P. will be missed by the community, her very special golden girlfriends, and extended children.

Homecoming celebration will be held April 29, 2017, 12:00 noon at Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church (765 West Street, Montevallo, AL) and burial at the Montevallo Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered to Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church Missionary or Willing Workers.
