Mrs. Mary Lou Woods
On Monday, January 18, 2021, Mary Lou Woods, beloved wife of the late George Woods, was called home to be with the Lord at the age of 91. Born in Montevallo, Alabama on February 7, 1929 to the late Willie White Sr. and Lou Ella White, Mary Lou was a caring and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, and friend. Mary Lou is preceded in death by her brothers Henry White, Willie White Jr., James Earl White and sister Mildred Harris. Mary Lou's legacy lives on through her children: Floyd (Linda) Richardson Sr., Deborah Johnston, Timothy Curtis Woods, Desiree Woods, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Elnora White. Mary Lou had a large family and extended family, including her niece and caregiver, Sandra Woods, whom she loved and who loved and cared for her deeply.
Mary Lou treasured her family, Shiloh Baptist Church community, friends, and neighbors. She was raised in the church where she dutifully served with diligence and joy and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mary Lou attended Alabama A&M University and Wayne County Community College (Detroit, MI). Mary Lou retired from employment at the University of Montevallo. In her free time, Mary Lou enjoyed reading the bible, cooking, crafting, and caring for children. Mary Lou opened her home and her heart and was a loving caregiver to many. Her memory will be cherished by all of those whose lives she touched.
A Celebration of Life service will take place on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at The Good Shepherd Funeral Home, Montevallo, AL at 12:00 Noon with burial at Montevallo Cemetery.
Viewing will be held Tuesday, January 26, 2021 from 4:00 P.M. -6:00 P.M. at The Good Shepherd.
