Master Sergeant Jackie L. Sims was born October 24, 1964 to proud parents Dr. I.L. and Renona Sims. He was baptized at an early age at New Hope Baptist Church in Randolph, AL. He later joined New Direction Worship Center in Blythewood, SC. He was joined in holy matrimony to Jacqueline Davis Sims in 1988, and years later married Rita Thomas Sims in 2008. Master Sergeant Sims transitioned from this earthly life on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, SC. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, son, and overall a loving person. He had a gift that was sent by God, and that was the gift of love.

Master Sergeant Jackie L. Sims graduated from Bibb County High School in 1983. He continued his education at Columbia Southern University where he achieved his Associate, Bachelor's, and Master's degrees in occupational safety. He was employed as a Safety Specialist with Dominion Energy in Columbia, SC.

Master Sergeant Jackie L. Sims began his military career when he enlisted in the National Guard in 1982. While in active duty, he completed two tours overseas in support of operation Iraqi Freedom. He received several decorations which include: Iraqi Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal. Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Services Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal With "M" Device and 20 Year Device. After completing 31 years of service in the U.S. Army he retired in 2015.

He was preceded in death by his father Dr. I.L. Sims Sr, and his brother-in-law Charles Bray.

He leaves to cherish his loved memories four children Amber N. Conwell, Darron L. Sims, Lamonica S. Sims, Jackie A. Sims, a loving mother, Renona M. Sims, four siblings, Beverly Wilkerson (Joe) of Centreville, AL, Brenda Nix (Lee) of Randolph, AL, Janice Bray of Thorsby, AL, and Ira Sims Jr. (Denise) of Centreville, AL, three grandchildren, Naomi Conwell, Paris Sims, and Sadiya Sims, five Aunts Bernice Atchison of Jemison, AL, Bernice Fuller of Centreville, AL, Ruby Campbell of Detroit, MI, Geraldine Jones of Cleveland, OH, and Deborah Fuller of Selma, AL, three uncles J.C. Sims of Akron, OH, Robert Fuller of Selma, AL, and Eddie Fuller (Deborah) of Selma, AL, and a loving fiancé, Tara Sligh-Washington.

Master Sergeant Jackie L. Sims will be deeply missed by everyone whose life he touched.

Viewing will be held Thursday, July 8, 2021 from 4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. at The Good Shepherd.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, July 9, 2021 at 11:30 A.M. at Pleasant Sabine Baptist Church in Antioch with interment with Military Honors at Alabama National Cemetery at 2:00 P.M.
