Hallie M. Cohill was born on June 10, 1938 to the late Sammy and Vinnie Collins in, Maylene, Al. Hallie was the third of five children. Four children preceded her in death: three sisters, Beatrice Threatt, Johnnie Miller, and Marilyn Dates and one brother, Sammy Collins. At an early age she accepted Christ and was a member of Freewill Baptist Church.
She grew up in Maylene, AL and attended Prentice High School. She started dating the late Paul Cohill Jr. They united in holy matrimony on October 16,1955. To this union five children were born and nurtured: Paul Cohill III (preceded her in death), Sharon Kirkland, Teresa Tyus, Kenneth Cohill (preceded her in death), and Jimmy Cohill. She worked at Shelby Baptist Hospital and Alabaster Industries for a while until her husband told her to come home. She was a housewife of Alabaster, AL.
Hallie Cohill was known for her great style and wit. She was one of the founders of New Vision Church. She was a member of the Shelby County Progressive Choir under the leadership of the late Clayton Kidd. They traveled from state to state giving praises to God. She was also a musician and a singer in her own right. She played the piano at numerous churches and loved singing! One of her favorite songs that she enjoyed singing was “I’m not Tired Yet” by Mississippi Mass Choir. She would walk the floor and praise him until she could no longer. She continued to go to church until her health failed.
God called Hallie home on Saturday nightMay 30, 2026. She leaves to cherish in her memory: two daughters, Sharon Kirkland (James), and Teresa Tyus, one son, Jimmy Cohill, one sister in law, Charlotte Ward, one daughter in law, Sandra Cohill Six grand children, Trivisha Dawson, Tikisha Kirkland-Cottingham (Tim), Yosheka Houser, Tasha Alexander (Cardell), Diandra Cohill, and Antonio Tyus, Seven great grandchildren, Cardell Alexander, Kennadi Alexander, Ashlyn Jones, Jayden Alexander, Devyn Avery, Paige Houser and Preston Houser, One great great grandchild, Adaiyah Alexander and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
