Niola Huff's Obituary

Niola Fields Huff was born on June 30,1949 to the late Mr. Sidney "Shag" Fields and late Lue Ollie Fields in Aldrich, AL. Niola confessed to Christ at an early age and became a member of Green Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Aldrich, AL under the leadership of Rev. P. W. Mays. She served as a choir member, president of the choir, president of the matrons, Sunday school teacher, a youth leader, and headed a tutoring program. Niola graduated from Prentice High School in Montevallo, AL. After graduating from high school, she attended Selma University and received her Associate's Degree in Art. She proceeded to attend the University of Montevallo after it became integrated. She graduated as one of the first five blacks from the University of Montevallo while obtaining her Bachelor's of Science degree in 1971. Niola went on to teach Elementary and Junior High School. During her lifetime, she was employed with Briarcliff Nursing Home, Thompson Elementary School, and Wal-Mart. She retired in 1998 after teaching 5th grade at Thompson Elementary School for 27 years. Niola was a member of Gamma Phi Delta Sorority Inc. On the local level, she held numerous positions that included: Basileus, 1st Anti-Basileus, 2nd Anti-Basileus, and Financial Grammateus. On the regional level, she operated as the Grammateus and Financial Grammateus. She was also a former advisor of the Montevallo Community Choir, a member of Shelby County Education Retiree Association, and a member of the Alabama Education Retiree Association. On Sunday, July 6, 2025, an angel came and covered the bright spirit of Niola and carried her to a land free of suffering. Niola was preceded in death by her Father Sidney "Shag" Fields, Mother Lue Ollie Fields, her only Brother (Daddy # 2) James Sidney Fields, and Sisters Dorothy DuBose and Louise Smith. Miss Huff leaves her loving legacy to her three devoted daughters: Carmen Childs (Curtis), Telisha Huff, and Millicent Huff (Jermaine); One in a lifetime Son-in-Love: Curtis Childs; Five dynamic grandchildren: Angelika Childs, Daneveya Burrell (Eron), Xavion King, MaLise Lilly, J'Tavious Abston; Three amazing great-grandchildren: Steve McCord III, Xavion King, and Kaiser Burrell; Three honorary granddaughters: Dominique Gilbert (Michael Gilbert Jr.), Kaleah McGuire, and Alani Turner; Five sisters Elizabeth Chappell (Emmett), Rosa Marie Fields, Linda McCray (Milton), Debra Spruel, and Brenda Fortune; Long-term best friend: Brenda Hines; and a host of relatives and friends.
