Olivia Jackson Mccray's Obituary

Obituary

Olivia Jackson McCray was born on September 2, 1950 and passed away on April 8, 2021 after a long illness.  Olivia was preceded in death by her grandparents, Charlie Lee Dobbs and Lillian M. Dobbs, and parents Paul Jackson Jr. and Lillie Mae Jackson; and her sister, Patricia Jackson Worthey and her brother, Michael E. Jackson.

Olivia is survived by her husband Arthur McCray; stepdaughter, Annette Poinsetta Freeman, stepson, Arthur McCray Jr. (Angela); her brothers, Charlie P. Jackson (Gwen), James K. Jackson, Dewayne C. Jackson (Evelyn), George D. Jackson (Teresa), and Tommy Wilson; and her sisters, Tomysine E. McPhatter and Toni Baker; Great Uncle, Ralph Vassar,  and a host of nieces and nephews and cousins.

Olivia was raised in Montevallo by her grandmother, Lillian Dobbs, many knew her as Big Mama. Olivia worked at the family day care and helped raise her siblings.  She also worked at the University of Montevallo Speech and Hearing Center. Olivia enjoyed this job very much. She was married to Arthur McCray for 40 years and was a devoted and faithful wife.  Later, Olivia became a care giver for senior ladies who lived in Montevallo.  Her loving-kindness and tender good care endeared her to them, and they loved her and viewed Olivia as family.  Olivia was active in her community and reached out to help others.  Libby was the pulse of her family, the glue.  She touched the lives of all in the family.  Her love, concern, and devotion made a difference personally; this will be a void for her family and friends.  She was like a mother to her siblings.  She was a spiritual minded person and loved to study the Bible.  Her spiritual journey began at Pilgram Rest Missionary Baptist Church where she was a long-time member.   In 2014, she became a member of the Calera Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.  Olivia loved to talk to anyone she could about her wonderful Heavenly Father, Jehovah God, and his Son, Christ Jesus.  She said it was her goal to be an encourager of others and she surely was to all.  Olivia will be missed greatly by all her family and friends.
