Pastor Leslie D. Whiting transitioned to his heavenly home on December 15, 2024. Service December 18, 2024, 1:00PM Shelby County Arts Council He was born in Pensacola, Florida. and was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Catherine Whiting. Pastor Whiting lived a life defined by service, faith, and dedication to his family and community. Faith and Family While attending Alabama State University, Pastor Whiting met his wife, Teresa. Together, they built a strong foundation of love and partnership that would span decades. Their marriage was a testament to faith and mutual respect, and they raised their family guided by the Word of God. His commitment to his family was evident in every aspect of his life. Service to Country After attending Alabama State University, Pastor Whiting enlisted in the United States Army, where he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSG), serving his country with honor and dedication. His time in the military reflected his values of discipline, courage, and selflessness. Career and Community Upon returning to civilian life, Pastor Whiting began a career with the U.S. Postal Service, where he dedicated 33 years of service. This role allowed him to build meaningful connections with members of his community. Pastor Whiting found great joy in his interactions, especially with children--teaching them the special gesture of shaking hands and rewarding them with a lollipop. This small act brought him so much happiness and reflected his belief that "people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care." He was a familiar and friendly presence, known for his kindness and his ability to bring people together. His work at the Postal Service became another avenue for him to serve and uplift those around him. Pastoral Leadership Pastor Whiting's life was deeply rooted in his faith. He answered the call to ministry and served as the pastor of The Church at Columbiana, AL and St. James Church in Ranburne, Alabama. He also served as the Youth Pastor at Union Baptist Church in Columbiana, Alabama. His leadership extended beyond the pulpit, as he worked tirelessly to address the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of his church and the wider community. • Shelbywoods Senior Housing Community Service Pastor Whiting faithfully served his community through various community initiatives and organizations, including: His commitment to serving others reflected his belief that "people don't wanna know what you know until they know that you care." He worked diligently to make a positive impact in the lives of others, earning the admiration and respect of all who knew him. A Legacy of Lave Pastor Whiting's greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband to Teresa, a loving father to Tracy Sanders, Leslie Whiting Jr. (Bethany), and Maurice Whiting (Ellen), Jerriel Moreland, Rodrick Whiting and a proud "Papi" to a bundle of grandkids. He was preceded in death by his beloved sister Andrea Whiting. His siblings include Mary Paige (John), Orinetta Wynder (Paul) of Memphis, TN, and Randy (Bonnie) of Pensacola, FL; and a host of family, friends, and congregation members who will forever remember his kindness and wisdom.

His life was a testament to the values he held dear-faith, integrity, and service. He cherished every momerit spent vith bis loved nes and found great fulfillment in nurturing and guiding them and everyone he met. As a coach and mentor to many, Pastor Whiting instilled
