Rayfield Marshall's Obituary

Reverend Rayfield Marshall was born to the late Thomas and Ella Mae Marshall on July 11, 1954. He accepted Christ at a young age at Hope Hill Baptist Church, and later united withWard Chapel AME Church, where he remained a faithful servant of the Lord until his death. He received his formal education at West Blocton High, Bessemer State Tech, and Southeastern Bible College. He was employed with Southern Clean Fuels and Alabama Power as a Chemical Quality Technician. He retired from Camuerse-Longview Lime and Stone. He could not stay home long for he had work to do for the Lord. He was called into the ministry, and became a licensed, ordained minister through the AME Church. Reverend Marshall later became an Itinerant Elder in the AME Church. Reverend Marshall was pastor at Grant Chapel AME-Calera, St. John AME-Graysville, and Mathews Chapel AME-Scottsboro. Reverend Marshall was also recently employed with the Shelby County school system, where he was a bus aide for special needs children. As a young man, Rayfield met and married the love of his life, Marion Mayweather. Together, they had five children, Ray, April, Troy, Drew, and Patrick. As a young couple, Rayfield and Marion faced many problems, but God saw them through it all. He was challenged with the need of a kidney transplant. God was faithful and blessed him with a transplant that lasted for 40 years. Being a transplant patient did not stop Reverend Marshall. He took care of his family, and was very active in the community. Reverend Rayfield Marshall never met a stranger. He loved and cared for everyone he came in contact with. He always put himself aside, and was always willing to lend a hand to family and friends. He always encouraged and prayed for others—letting people know the best is yet to come. He constantly wanted others to know to trust God and to have faith! Reverend Rayfield Marshall went on to be with our Father in heaven on October 6, 2016, and was preceded in death by his sister, Ann Hall, and brother, Lonnie Marshall. His memories will be treasured forever by: his wife, Marion Mayweather Marshall; five children, Ray (Denise) Marshall of Houston, TX, April Marshall, Troy Marshall, Drew Marshall, and Patrick Marshall, all of Chelsea, AL; two grandchildren, Arjay Marshall and Marea Marshall, both of Houston, TX; seven brothers, James Lee Selzer, Robert Norris of Covert, MI, Thomas Marshall of Myrtle Beach, SC, George (Jean) Marshall, Charles Marshall of Chicago, IL, Derrick (Mary) Marshall, and Oliver (Wanda) Marshall, both of Montevallo, AL; three sisters, Mary Alice Marshall and Deloris Marshall Hill of Montevallo, AL, and Lucille (Fernando) Zeigler of Birmingham, AL; four sisters-in-law, Judy (Elder Johnny) Chaney, Gloria (Edward) McConis, Carolyn Jones, and Mary Doris Williams, all of Birmingham, AL; two aunts, Alice Streeter of Baltimore, MD, and Laura Mae Williams of Birmingham, AL; three uncles, Houston (Emma Jean) Marshall of Birmingham, AL, Reverend Clyde (Jeanette) Sailes of Tampa, FL and Dean (Doreatha) Sailes of Indianapolis, IN; three godsons, Jeremiah Mayweather of Virginia Beach, VA, Jesus Juarez of Birmingham, AL, and Derius Harris of Houston, TX; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church family; and special friends, Beverly Carter, Leila Mitchell and Marla Jones.
