Robert Charles Smith, Jr. was born to the parentage of the late Robert C. Smith, Sr., and Louise Smith.  He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior.  Robert graduated from H.D. Davidson High School in 1968, then later received an undergraduate degree at Stillman College.  Robert had a passion for mechanical work and family.  He truly loved being around all of his family as he had a special individual and timely word for every person he met.  Nothing was off limits if you needed something from him, whether it was material or just a kind word.  His laugh was contagious, as there was always a new joke at the tip of his tongue.  He always had a new recipe for everyone that loved to cook.  Robert was a hard-working family man.  He retired from Bibb County Commission after 20 years of service.  He united in holy matrimony to Brenda F. Smith.  Through their union they had two children.  Robert made his triumphant entry into his glorious home Thursday, March 30, 2017 at 10:45 a.m. at his son's home, surrounded by many of his loved ones.  Robert was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Brenda; his daughter, Jennifer Smith; two sisters, Willie Dean Smith and Kathy Holifield; and one brother, Billy J. Smith.  He leaves to cherish his memories: his only son, Richard Smith; two grandsons, Richard Allen Smith and Robert Charles Smith; his brothers, James Smith, Truman (Nikita) Smith, Roy (Mary) smith, Jeremiah Smith, all of Montevallo, AL,  and John Smith of Brierfield, AL; his sisters, Edna Smith, Lillian (Carl) Montgomery, Patricia Gilmore, all of Montevallo, AL, and Julie Smith of Birmingham, AL; sisters-in-law, Sophia Smith and Sarah Lacey, both of Montevallo, AL brothers-in-law, Sam Chappell and Jesse Chappell. Funeral service will be held Sat. April 8, 2017 at Waymon Chapel A.M.E. Church in Brierfield with burial at The Smith Family Cemetery.
