Ronald William Rogers was born July 17, 1954, in Lamar, South Carolina. Ron attended Spaulding High School in Lamar, SC and University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. While attending the University of South Carolina he pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity in the spring of 1973. He completed his undergraduate work at the University of Central Florida, Orlando, FL as a result of a career move.
Ron worked in numerous retail management positions for over 50 years with Southland Corporation, Texaco/Shell, Kangaroo Express & Circle K in various locations. Ron was recently active as Liberty Baptist Church Finance Director and member of the LBC Men's Choir. He was previously a member of the LBC Trustee Board and Couples Ministry leader. He enjoyed serving with the mind of achieving results.
Ron and his family relocated over the years to Alabama as a result of his career opportunities; thus settling in Alabaster, AL for the last 22 years making it home with his daughters and their families. Ron was a diehard South Carolina Gamecocks & Dallas Cowboys fan. He also enjoyed hobbies of golfing, chatting with the bruhs, traveling, watching sports, and working in the yard. After retirement he fulfilled his dream of driving a school bus as he did in high school. Over a period of four years, he drove for Alabaster and Pelham City Schools.
Ron was the beloved husband of Sherilyn Butler Rogers (formerly of Sumter, SC); father to Felicia Rogers (Joseph) Strother and Erica Rogers (Chris) Jones; grand father to Rashad Strother, Britnie Strother, Caden Jones, and Christian Jones; and great grandfather to Lincoln Strother; he was also devoted to his sister, Helen (the late Franklin) Douglas and brother, E. Michael (Mary) Rogers.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Theo Sr., and Mattie Lou Samuels Rogers; and his siblings: James, Mary, Herbert, Theo Jr, Marion, Ethel Mae, Frederick, Annie Ruth, Wendell, and Arlene.
He will be greatly missed by a host of extended family, in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, fraternity brothers, friends, and colleagues.
