Ruether Cottingham Cathey was born in Marvel Al to Walter and Gussie Cotthingham.

She attended school in Bibb County, AL. She married the love of her life the late Mr. Laster Cathey, Sr. on December 25, 1956.

Later in life she moved to Montevallo, AL and united with ward Chapel A.M.E. Church.

Ruether departed this life on Sunday, April 29, 2018 in the home of her daughter Sybile Lilly. She leaves to cherish her memories two daughter, Sophia Gentry and Sybile Lilly both of Montevallo, AL and two sons, Laster Cathey, Jr. and Andrew Cathey both on Montevallo, AL, nine grandchildren, fourteen grandchildren and a host of other relatives.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 12:00 noon at Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church in Montevallo with burial at Montevallo Cemetery. Rev. Monty Royster Officiating.
