Steve J. Hayes, Jr.'s Obituary

Steve Hayes, Jr. was born February 9, 1932, in Verbena, Alabama to the late Arthenia and Steve Hayes, Sr. The family moved from Autauga County, AL to Shelby County, Alwhere he completed his education. After which, he joined the United States Army where he served his country faithfully for two years.

After departing the military and moving back to Alabaster, AL, he worked several years at Alabama Aggregation and later retired from Westinghouse after 25 years of service.

Bro. Hayes (Uncle June) joined the Lilly Hill Baptist Church in Verbena, AL at an early age then relocated to Alabaster, AL where he joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church. He married the love of his life Johnnie Mae Cohillon August 13, 1955. That union was blessed with three children, Othenia (Walter) Turner, Annie Mae Miller, and Gary Bruce Hayes, all of Alabaster, Alabama; two brothers, Theodore C. Hayes of Birmingham, Al, and Freddie Lee (Ruth) Hayes of Atlanta, Ga.; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; a host of loving and caring nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, December 15 at 12:00 Noon at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Alabaster with burial at Alabama national Cemetery with Military Honors. Rev. Richard Davis Officiating.
