William Ester Gibson, Jr.'s Obituary

Mr. William Ester Gibson, Jr. was born to the late Mr. Will E. Gibson and Carrie L. Gibson in Athens, Alabama on April 28, 1950.

William attended and graduated from Trinity High School, Athens, Alabama; Afterwards he graduated from J. F. Drake State Community & Technical College, Huntsville, Alabama and went on to serve his country in the U. S. Marine Corp. and the U.S. Army with combined years from 1969-1992. After retiring from the Armed Force, William attended and graduated from Shelton State Community College, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He also worked for the County of Bibb and was later employed by B. F. Goodrich, Opelika, Alabama until he retired in 2009.

He committed his life to Christ at an early age and later joined the Mt. Sinai A.M.E. Church in Centreville, Alabama in 1993. He loved the Lord and served him in any capacity. He was an active member of the church, leading worship services and doing whatever was necessary to ensure that each service was Spirit led.

He was united in Holy Matrimony in May of 1995 to Cassandra Diane (Cash) Gibson and to this union they raised three children together, Angelan Gibson, Jordan Gibson, and Jeremy Gibson. William and Cassandra did almost everything together during their 26 years as husband and wife.

William was a member of the Senior Citizen Lillie Star District in Centreville, Alabama, He volunteered his services with the Community Services in Centreville as well. When he wasn't active in the community, he enjoyed masterminding and completing projects around the house. He also loved his family and ensured they were always provided with the essentials of life.  As a man of Faith, William's favorite saying was, "Keep your hands in God's Hands," and he loved to sing, "The Old Ship of Zion.  On March 15, 2022, William stepped on board to God's  calling him home. He lived a rich, full, and rewarding life. He will be missed by many.

He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted and loving wife, Cassandra; his daughter, Angelan Gibson; his sons, Jordan Gibson, Jeremy Gibson, all of Brent, AL; two older sons: William (Mary) Gibson III, and Dimitra Gibson of Huntsville, AL; One sister, Debra (Ervin) Jamar of Madison, AL; Four grandchildren LaShandra Wade, Taleigha Gibson, Shaquera Wade, and William Gibson IV, all of Huntsville, AL;  Six great- grandchildren; One Sister-in-law, Phyllis Cash of Mamaroneck, NY; Brother-in-law, Darnell Cash of Louisville, KY;  and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Viewing will be held Wednesday, mar. 23, 2022 from 4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. at The Good Shepherd.

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, Mar. 24, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at River of Life Church in Centreville, AL. Interment at Alabama National Cemetery at 1:15 P.M. with Military Honors.
