Annie Louise Humphries was born in Piper, Alabama (Bibb County) May 20, 1946. She was born, the second child, to Mary Louise and Nettles Chapman. She grew up in Montevallo, Alabama where she accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Everdale Baptist Church.
She attended Prentice High School in Montevallo, Alabama. After high school she married Milton McCray July 2, 1962. She became a housewife and mother of three daughters, Vanessa, Nicye and Charlotte. Vanessa and Nicye, as babies, preceded her in death. She later married George Agee on June 28, 1969 and they made their home in Montevallo. When the marriage dissolved she moved to Detroit, Michigan. On July 24, 1981 she married George Humphries and became mother to his daughter Diane. Annie and George raised their two daughters to adulthood in Detroit. When George passed away on August 28, 1990, she remained in Detroit gaining employment as a caregiver to seniors. She loved her job and was much beloved by the seniors she served. In 2005 she returned home to Montevallo where she happily spent the rest of her days.
In addition to her daughters, Annie was preceded in death by her Mother, Mary Louise Gilmore; Father Nettles Chapman; Step-Father, Presley Gilmore Sr.; Brothers, Charles Chapman; Ricky Gilmore; and Charles Chambers; Sister, Rosa Chism.
She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters: Charlotte Ann Smith, Monte-vallo, AL and Diane Humphries, Huntsville, AL; one son-In-law Antonio Smith; two grandchildren, Antonio Smith Jr. and Alicia Smith; two grandchildren, Antonio Smith III and Elijah Isaiah Smith; five devoted sisters: Elaine Chapman-Epps (Sam), Cynthia Carlisle (Clarence), Jessica Gilmore, Kathy Niang (Ibraham), Charlisa Smith; three loving brothers: Wayne Chapman (Gwen), Presley Gilmore, Keith Gilmore, one sister-in-law Katheryn Chambers; one aunt: Catherine Foster (Tommy) two uncles: Ernest Junious (Barbara), Dr. Marshall L. Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She had many special friends at Cobblestone Creek Apartment and a special devoted friend, Thormin Holmes.
Homegoing Celebration will be held Friday, October 27, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Holly Grove Baptist Church in Jemison with burial at Montevallo City Cemetery.
