Barbara Ann Hill Kidd Obituary

Sister Barbara Ann Hill Kidd was born October 8, 1941, in Birmingham, Alabama. She was the first-born child to Johnnie and Arthur Lee Hill, Sr. Barbara eventually had four siblings: Arthur Lee Hill, Jr. (Olivia), Theophilus (Teddy) Hill, Benjamin Leon Hill, and Jessyca Hill Caddell. After her birth, Barbara went to Alabaster to live with and care for her grandparents: Steve and Annie Jones. She attended Shelby County Training School where she met and fell deeply for the love of her life, Richard Edward Kidd, Sr. They dated the four years of High School and then married and remained married for 61 years. Their relationship totaled 65 years. Barbara bonded with her mother and father-in-law, Henderson and Gussie Kidd and gained additional sisters and brothers including Earnest, Otis, Clayton, Curtis, Emma Lois, Shirley, and Earnestine.

Also, during her marriage Barbara was mother to Steven, Constance and Richard Jr. They adored their mother and added a son-in-law, Zachary and a daughter-in-law, Donella. Grandchildren included Deidra Ann, Ashley Michelle, Rachel Nicole, Brianna Faith, Gillian Grace, Dainisha Devon, David Ron, Dominisha and Darvick and Cadyn Richard. Barbara was also loved and treasured by her many nieces and nephews & special cousins. Richard Jr., Alfred and Marlon Simmons were first cousins, as was Bobby and Roderick Jones. Cynthia Faye Underwood was also a special cousin. Generally, a happy person, one of Barbara’s greatest pleasures was the birth of her great-granddaughter, Lailah, on her last birthday.

During her adulthood, Barbara’s major working assignments were as a Nurse’s Assistant at Shelby Memorial Hospital in Alabaster, and as a Clerk at several offices of the Shelby County Courthouse, including the Probate, Driver’s License and the Tag offices. She also worked for a time at Paul’s Jewelry in Alabaster. Bad health was a concern throughout her life. She survived two major illnesses--Breast Cancer and Open-Heart surgery. These were major factors in her being bed-ridden in her last several years. Another factor was the many falls she suffered. Barbara eventually succumbed on January 3, 2024, at the Shelby Baptist Medical Center to a blood infection which resulted from Pneumonia. She was 82 years old. While it is certain that few people welcome death, Barbara definitely would have stated the following: For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all of them also that love his appearing.

II Timothy 4:6-8
