Betty Abercrombie Obituary

Mrs. Betty M. Abercrombie was born in Selma, Alabama to the late Susie and Odie Hill on January 31, 1954.

The youngest of thirteen children, Betty would grow to live an exciting, eventful and God fearing life. She would join the church early on in life. Betty would also join the U.S. Air force in 1980, as an Aerospace Control and Warming Operator. She retired honorably, to begin her biggest opportunity – becoming a mother. She welcomed her daughter and begins her life as a banking supervisor for several credit union branches until her retirement.

She would, in recent years, complete her bachelor’s and  master’s degree, becoming a published author, NAACP Chapter Secretary, community organizer, activist, fundraiser, and distinguished leader.

Betty was not only passionate about life but faith and service, where she met her husband, Ernest Abercrombie. They would remain married for over twenty years, until her untimely death.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Otis Hill, Jr. Robert Cole, and Melvin Cole, Jr.; sisters, Barbara Cruz, Lillie Sue Hill, Arlean Hill Lane , Mary Hooks, and Bertha Lee Talley.

“T Betty”, as she was lovingly referred to, was a devoted wife, mother, aunt, sister, and friend. Her selflessness will always be remembered and her personality forever cherished. Her legacy of love, service, and fortitude will forever be embedded in the hearts and memories of the one she has left behind: A dedicated husband, Mr. E. A. ; loving daughter  Shaka (C. Smith) McCoy; sisters Phyllis Dickerson, Rosie Garth, and Ardean Allen; s step daughter, Lashonda  Towensend;  two step  granddaughters; two step great granddaughters; sister-in-law, Mary Louise Jackson, Armpernella Witherspoon, Lola Baldwin, brother-in-law, Charles (Carolynn) Abercrombie, cherished nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, godchildren, cousins, close confidants, a host of church families, and cherished friends.
