Life Reflections
Charles Edward White was born on October 26, 1916, to the late George White and Emma Parker, in Shelby, Alabama.
He was united in marriage to Willie Love White on December 19, 1948. They were blessed with 69 years of marriage.
Charles passed away peacefully on June 29, 2021 in Shelby, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Willie Love White and grandson Norman Terry White Jr.
He leaves to mourn seven children: Florence Manuel and Melvin White (Ruth) of Birmingham, Alabama, Lawrence White of Shelby, Alabama, Jerome White of Birmingham, Alabama; Norman White (Quilla) of Shelby, Alabama, Teresa Whiting (Leslie) of Columbiana, Alabama, Margaret White of New York, New York, adopted daughter, Tracy Sanders of Phoenix, Arizona, one sister-in-law, Ira Russell of Conyers, Georgia, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces,nephews, and special neighbor, Lillian Green Sawyer.
He served at Providence Baptist Church, Shelby, Alabama as the chairman of the deacon board and a faithful member for many years. He was known to many as Shortie, Mr. Charles, C.E., Big Daddy, and Daddy. He loved reading the newspaper, and keeping up with current events. All that knew him well knew not to interrupt his viewing of National Geographic (he loved his animals). He answered the call to serve his country during WWII and is a United States Navy Veteran. He retired from Vulcan Materials after 26 years. He was an honorary member of the American Legion Post 131, Columbiana, Alabama. He was a double-inductee into the Alabama Senior Citizens Hall of Fame: “Couples Married 65 years or More” and “Senior Citizens 100 Years of Age or Older” on August 13, 2017, in Montgomery, Alabama. He was a loving and caring husband and father.
Viewing will be held on Friday, July 2, 2021 from 4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. at The Good Shepherd.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 3, 2021 at 12:30 P.M. at Providence Baptist Church in Shelby, AL with interment at Providence Community Cemetery with Military Honors in Shelby, AL.
