She attended Public School and graduated from Prentice High School in Montevallo, Alabama. She confessed Christ at an early age and joined Liberty Baptist Church. Later in life she united with Rising Star Baptist Church and was a faithful member until she made her transition.

Ella worked at Brookwood Women’s Hospital and retired after over thirty years of service.  She helped everyone she met.  She was a good and faithful servant of God; she lived her life according to the Word of God.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to Hayward Griffin, Sr. and to this union three children were born:  Alonzo Griffin, Haywood Griffin, Jr.  and Tamela Griffin Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Rosie Lee Hale; granddaughter,  Mekesha Andrews Griffin;  brothers, Jerry and Donnie Hale; sisters, Charlie Mae Hale and Linda Green.

Her beautiful life will be cherished in the lives of her three children:  Alonzo Griffin (Michelle), Atlanta, Ga;  Haywood Griffin, Jr. (Jacqueline), Montevallo, AL;  and Tamela Griffin Smith, Birmingham, AL: twelve grandchildren, D’Andre, Alexia, Alfonzo, Lorenzo, Cora, Landis, Jonathan, Victor, Ashley,  Cody, Justin, Whitney; four brothers, Ronnie, Ricky, Terrance and Christopher Hale; two sisters, Mary Dowdell and Rosalyn Hale; special friend and companion, Rescue Jackson; sixteen great- grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020 at 12:00 Noon at New Rising Star Church, 7400 London Ave.  in Birmingham, AL  with burial at Saginaw Cemetery in Saginaw, AL
