EULOGY
CW5 (Retired) Fred Vester Twitty was born January 26, 1940 to the late Lester Twitty and Arvester Hines in Hanceville, Alabama, both of whom preceded his death. He was one of seven beloved siblings: Mary-Francis Harbin, George Twitty, Emma Kay Watson, Claudean Ollison, Douglas Twitty, and Barbara Marsh Moody. George, Mary-Francis and Emma preceded his death.
At an early age, Fred left home to attend Nashville Christian Institute, a private, chrisitan-based high school for black youths. He became one of the few privileged to attend a school of such high excellence.
After graduating with high honors, he briefly attended college before being drafted into the United States Army.
Prior to being drafted into the service, he met and married Jeannette Willoughby. Throughout the years, they lovingly maintained three children: Jacqueline, Yvette, and Freddie. His son, Freddie, preceded his death.
Although he entered the U.S. Army as a draftee, Fred relished the discipline, order, and honor of military service and valiantly spent more than 35 years in active military service to God, the United States of America, and his fellow man.
He valorously completed two tours of duty during the Vietnam War as well as the Persian Gulf War. During his service, he achieved the highest distinction of rank as Chief Warrant Officer Five (CW5). At the time of his promotion to CW5, there were only two active members in the entire United States Army of the same rank.
He attended various colleges during his military career, always graduating in the top 2% of his class. At the completion of one such course of study, he was perfectly fluent in the German language after only nine months of study.
His travels during his military service took him to uniquely diverse and extraordinary places.
He further distinguished himself by serving in Washington, D.C. at the White House for the 41st President George H. W. Bush and the 42nd President Bill Clinton.
As a young boy, his grandmother encouraged him to concentrate on his studies. From that time until the end of his life, his penchant for learning never waned. During his military career, he successfully attended various colleges.
After retiring from active duty, he returned to the Tennessee Valley to be near his mother and embrace civilian life. He entered into private practice as a security investigator, attained a second bachelor's degree from Columbia College, and a Master's degree from the University of Auburn, Montgomery.
Despite his busy schedule and multiple commitments, Fred maintained a continuous fellowship with his Christian faith through the Church of Christ ministries and churches throughout this country and overseas.
He leaves to cherish his memories:
Two daughters: Jacqueline Jackson, and Yvette Morrison. Son-in-law: Henry Morrison. Grandsons: Steven Jackson and Keanen Jackson. Granddaughter: Janeen Gardner.
