James Allen Burns was born to the late Bessie Woods Burns and the late James Edward Burns on January 31, 1959, in Columbiana, AL.
He confessed Christ at an early age at Macedonia Baptist Church in Columbiana, AL.
He was a graduate of Shelby County High School. He was later united in holy matrimony to Augusta Garrett. To this union three children were born. His employment included Valley Mills, Alloy Cast and Alabama Therapeutic Education Facility (ATEF).
James, lovingly called Allen, enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and coworkers. He had an infectious smile and quite a sense of humor! To know him was to love him, whether it was family life, on the job, sporting events, or sitting in his barbering chair in Alpine. He was a man of many hobbies, gifts and talents. He enjoyed drawing, flying drones and model airplanes, motorcycles, fishing, ATVs, and yes....more gizmos and gadgets, just to name a few. Allen was a “Jack of all trades” fixing seemingly almost anything, yet a master of one...showing love to people. Some of his more favorable pass times were family time, sports, especially Alabama Crimson Tide Football and good music. Allen enjoyed being “out and about”, such as going to City Market, concerts or driving to the peach orchard in Clanton along with the love of his life, Augusta. His children were his pride and joy! As a Paw-Paw, his grandchildren brought him much excitement and laughter. You may have even seen him sitting in the yard of one of his siblings just enjoying their presence. Allen had great friends near and far. He had a passion for his servant-leading role as a Supervisor at the Alabama Therapeutic Facility in Columbiana, AL. Everyone there were family to “Mr. Burns”! He departed this life with his family surrounding him as he received his call home, while at Select Specialty Hospital-Birmingham located in Brookwood Baptist Medical Center in Homewood, AL.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Edward Burns; mother, Bessie Lee Woods Burns; sister, Ivy Jean Portis; brothers, Waymon Charles Burns and Jackie Lee Burns; father-in-law, Hugh Barney Garrett; brothers-in-law, Douglas Portis, Sr. and Steve Jenkins; sister-in-law, Edna Garrett and nephew Bingman Shaw III.
