James Edward Montgomery “YUCK” Cathey was born to the late Samuel and Oler Cathey on February 23, 1940. James spent most of his childhood years in Wilsonville, Alabama. He later moved to Montevallo, Alabama and attended Prentice High School. James was employed with Stockham Valve Company in Birmingham, Alabama and Alabama Rental Car Services.
He joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Betsy Cathey in which they shared one daughter Angela Cathey.
James later moved to Birmingham, Alabama where he met and joined in Holy Matrimony to Gwendolyn Cathey.
He answered the voice of the Lord on Sunday February 6, 2022, and was called to join his sister Willie Ree McCary, his brothers Lester Cathey, Ellis Cathey, David Cathey and Desey B (Eva) Cathey.
Cherishing his wonderful memories is his loving family: Two daughters; Angela Cathey of Birmingham, AL and Sherry Whitt of Birmingham, AL; Two sisters: Linda Brown of Cleveland, Ohio and Jewel Dean Peoples of Youngstown, Ohio; Two brothers: Frank (Barbara) Cathey of Fayetteville, North Carolina; J Ruby Cathey of Montevallo, AL; Six grandchildren: Corey Cathey, Kristopher Cathey, Danelle Cathey, Crawford Cathey, Fredrick Cathey and Carlisa Cole; 16 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Special thanks to the Bell family for all the love and support in James's time of need.
Viewing will be held Monday, February 21, 2022, from 4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. at The Good Shepherd.
A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at 1:00 P.m. at The Good Shepherd Chapel with interment at Montevallo City Cemetery.
