Obituary

John Moore, Sr. was born to the parentage of the late Willie Hayward Moore and the late Alvenia Burns Moore Brown on February 5, 1943, in Shelby County, Alabama.

He accepted Christ at an early age and united with Everdale Missionary Baptist Church. He was ordained as a deacon under Reverend Written Lee and served the church faithfully until his passing.  He was educated in the Shelby County School System. He retired from Abex after 15 years of employment and he was also a member of Stone Mountain Lodge #187.

On November 21, 1964, he married Mary Elizabeth Brown and they shared 57 years of marriage filled with love and laughter until his passing.

He had a passion for cars, which he spent his free time repairing and maintaining. He also had a love for raising dogs, watching western films, and listening to his favorite recording artist, James Brown. He spent his lifebeing a loving father and grandfather; devoting his time, talents, and wisdom whenever it was needed.

John was preceded in death by his son, Glenn D. Moore; sisters, Emma Mae Moore, Natha Lee Moore, Alvenia Elizabeth Moore Paschel, and Rosa Lee Moore; brothers, Tommie Moore, James Moore (twin brother), and Willie James Moore; grandsons, Charles (CJ) David Thomas, Jr. and Benjamin (BJ) Peoples, Jr.

He departed this life on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Brookwood Baptist Shelby Medical Center, in Alabaster, AL.

John leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife, Mary Elizabeth Moore; six children, Lisa (Benjamin) Moore-Peoples, Michael Twitty, Augusta Moore, John (Ilea) Moore, Angelia (Leacroft) McKay, and Ra’Netta (Marcus) Underwood; two brothers, Daniel (Polly) Moore, and Elzie Moore; five granddaughters, Bennisha Peoples, Whitley Moore, Charlecia Thomas, CaNetra Moore, and Jarica Carter; 15 great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Markiyah, A’Miya, Ian, Armoni, Iryana, A’Mariana, Adiya, Markenzie, Amarion, Messiah, John (Tre), Amir, Levi, and Emarié; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends that shall miss him dearly.

  Viewing will be held Friday, March 11, 2022, from 4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. at The Good Shepherd.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 12, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at New Everdale Missionary Baptist Church Montevallo with burial at Montevallo Cemetery.
