Kenneth E. Wheeler, 92, of Alabaster, AL, passed away Wednesday, January 5th, 2022, at Shelby Ridge Rehab Select. He was born October 22, 1929, in Glasgow, KY, the son of Earl and Scharline (Humphrey) Wheeler. Mr. Wheeler was a devoted man of God, father and a U.S. Air Force veteran. He retired in 1977 after 20 years active USAF duty and 5 years active Illinois National Guard duty. He was formerly employed with Beech Aircraft Corporation while residing in Selma, AL. He subsequently lived in Albany, GA, Benham, KY and Alabaster, AL. He was active for years in local Church of the Nazarene congregations where he resided and loved southern gospel music. He loved sports, especially auto racing and basketball (Kentucky Wildcats of course) and also loved anything outside such as gardening, golf, fishing and traveling. He was preceded in death by his wife Collena (King). He is survived by his children, Terri Bice of Alabaster, Brenda (Tim) Stewart of Jacksonville, FL, Stan (Wendy) Wheeler of Talladega, AL; grandchildren, Nadia (Brandon) Chonko of St. Marys, GA , Benjamin Stewart of Crystal River, FL , Erin (Bryan) Smith of Cleveland, GA, Sarah (Tim) Tapscott of Cleveland, GA, Robert (Anne) Bice of Rome, GA, McClain Wheeler of Arlington, VA, Collin Wheeler of Birmingham, AL; great grandchildren Michael, Cason and Landry Chonko, Cauis and Cade Smith, Willow Tapscott, Caleb and Dylan Bice; brother, Walt (Kay) Wheeler of New Auburn, WI, sisters, Mary Cummings of Springfield, IL, Wanda Stucker of Fort Worth, TX and Barb White of DeWitt, IA. Burial will be Friday, January 14th, 2022 at 11:00 am at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo.
