Lester Youngblood

Lester Youngblood born June 18, 1937, departed this earthly dwelling on January 16, 2025, in his long-time chosen borough and city of Queens, New York. A resident of Calera, Alabama, Lester attended and graduated from Prentice High School of Montevallo, Alabama.Soon after, he joined his sister Lula Brown and brother James Youngblood in the up and coming city of Harlem, New York, where he gained productive employment in New York City. He returned intermittently to Alabama after graduating from high school to visit his family and eventually proposed marriage to his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Griffin of Alabaster, Alabama, to which he was married for 57 years and which included the culminating of their move from Harlem to the borough of Queens, New York, at the large Lefrak City Complex. Thereto, Lester maintained steady employment and was employed for many years at Morris Abrams Industrial of Long Island, Staff Builders of Rego Park doing some extra part-time work and eventually with the New Jersey Drug Guild for Pharmaceutical Distributions until his retirement phase. Later, Lester along with his Sister Lula, became active in the Lefrak City Tenants' Association as a Coordinator and then later as President. He also became a member of the NYC Queens 110 Precinct for Community Issues and eventually decided to join the New York Branch of the NAACP in Event Operations via the Malcolm X Day Care Center, resulting in an eventual vote by the members for him to become President for the Queens NAACP Branch operations which involved yearly meetings with other countrywide branches of the NAACP. Lester attended church in the Lefrak City Community (Continental) Center and frequently visited various community churches when possible to represent the Christian held faith of himself and wife, Dorothy. He leaves to mourn in New Jersey, Nieces Sandra Brown and Erikka Shuler and Nephew, Devante Brown. In New York he leaves his Brother in Law Amos Brown and a hosts of NAACP and Lefrak City community associates and friends. In Alabama, he leaves to mourn a Nephew, Cedric Youngblood, a Niece Cheryl Harris, a Sister in-law Arlene Griffin, Brother-in-law Ermon Griffin, Sister in Law Betty Bishop, Sister in-Law Lois Singleterry, Brother-in-law Carl Singleterry and Brother-in law Lloyd Griffin. Lester also leaves many extended nieces and nephews. Lester was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Youngblood; his Parents, Jim and Pearl Youngblood; Brother, Frances Youngblood; Sister-in-law, Alice Youngblood; Nephew, Robert "Bobby" Jones; Sister, Lula Brown: and brother -in-law Luther Griffin.
