Obituary
Naomi Mae Evans was born on December 14, 1941, in Almont, AL to the late Robert
Franklin Evans and Cora Mae Jenkins Evans. She was the third of five children born
to this union.She confessed Christ at an early age, attending Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir, as well as, serving on the usher board.
She remained a loyal and faithful member until she was unable to physically attend due to an illness, which would ultimately lead to her taking her last breath on
August 31, 2022 at 7:15 am.
Naomi attended the Shelby County public school system and graduated in 1960 from Prentence High School. From there she entered the work force starting at the
University of Montevallo for a number of years. She would go on to work various jobs throughout the years ending with 30 plus years as an assistant to the late
Essie Weston.
Naomi was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Rev. Robert Stanton (Francis), and Alonzo Evans; infant great-granddaughters,
Sierra, and Quierra Evans; niece Coretta Cunningham Williams; nephews Paul Stanton, and Frederick Stanton; cousins, Elnora Jenkins Johnson, Mary Joyce Evans Wynn, Freddie Andrews, Samuel Henry, John Baggett; and childhood friend since the 3rd grade, Ethel Dukes Mann.
She leaves to cherish her passing three children, daughters Angela D. Evans, Calera, AL; and Corazon R. Evans, Calera, AL, and son U. S. Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer (Retired), Reginald (Patricia) Evans, Chesapeake,VA; Five grandsons; Dishone Evans, Homewood, AL, Reginald Evans, Jr, Chesapeake, VA, Terrell S. Evans, Fredericksburg, VA, Tremail T. Evans, Montevallo, AL, and Omari K. Evans, Montevallo, AL; Five great-granddaughters; Aubrey, and Alyssa Evans, Elizabeth City, NC; Riley Riggins, Portsmouth, VA; Leia Evans, Fredericksburg, Va, and Gianna Butcher, Montevallo, AL; One sister, Willie L. Evans Cunningham, Detroit, MI; Two brothers, Joseph I. Evans, Stockton, CA, and Alex (Lizzie) Evans, Detroit, MI; seven nephews; four nieces; and a host of family members and friends including special cousins Tennie Holmes, and Theda Hall; as well as, a faithful and loyal companion, Mr. J Ruby Cathy.
Viewing will be held Friday, Sept. 9, 2022 from 4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. at The Good Shepherd.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022 at 12:00 Noon at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Montevallo with burial at Montevallo City Cemetery. Rev. Robert Hudson – Pastor
