Odessa Virginia Nell Cohill Williams, nick named by her father, “Shack”, was born on March 11, 1937 to the late Maynard Jackson Cohill and Alene O’Neal Cohill in Vincent, AL. Virginia was the second of eight children. She was peacefully called home to be with the Lord on December 6, 2021, at the age of 84.
Virginia accepted Christ at an early age at Liberty Baptist Church. After her health began to decline, she often attended Emmanuel Temple Holiness Church with her daughter and caregiver, Debbie Powell.
Virginia was employed at Shelby Medical Center in Alabaster, AL for 35 years, until her retirement in 1999. She was a pillar in the community and loved sitting on the porch. Virginia met Troy “Big” Williams and was united in marriage on September 22, 1953. The couple remained married for 54 years.
From this union, they welcomed six children: Dennis James Williams, Debbie Ann Williams, Darlene Latricia Williams, Danny Ray Williams, David Lamar Williams, Dwight Dwayne Williams.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Maynard Jackson Cohill Sr. and Alene O’Neal Cohill; her son, Dennis James Williams Sr.; her daughter, Darlene Latricia Williams Rhinehart; her 2 days old baby boy, David Lamar Williams; a baby granddaughter, Darlene Booker; a great-grandson, Amari Deontae King; three brothers, Jackson Cohill Jr. (the late Bernice), James Arthur Cohill, and John Henry Cohill; two sisters, Prillie Mae CohillBriggins (the late Luther) and Ada Gertrude Cohill Powell; and many other relatives and friends.
Virginia leaves to cherish her memories: a loving daughter and caregiver, Debbie Ann Williams Powell; two sons, Danny Ray Williams (Angela) and Dwight Dwayne WIlliams; a special grandson whom she raised as her son, Adrian Deon Rhinehart (Starsha); a special niece whom she raised as a daughter, Patricia Culbreath; two loving sisters, Mae Francis Hill (James) and Pearlene (the late Otis) Calhoun, both of Alabaster, AL; two sisters-in-law, Bobbie Jean Cohill and Rosie Cohill; two brothers-in-law, Theodore Hayes and John Powell; 12 loving grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends: Monica Trenholm, Lois Thomas, Robin Harrell, James Hall, and Helen Gaddis.
A song that she sang around the house was “Lord I Know You’ve Been So Good!”
Viewing will be held Friday, Dec. 10, 2021 from 4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. at The Good Shepherd.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Emmanuel Temple Holiness Church
with burial at Liberty Cemetery in Alabaster
