Ed Lewis Jones was born to the parentage of Porter Jones Sr. and Princess Etta Jones on November 20, 1958.
Ed accepted Christ at an early age.
He graduated from Shelby County High School, where he was on the basketball team and he also ran track for the Shelby County Wildcats. Once A Wildcat Aways A Wildcat.
Ed enlisted in the army from 1977-1980. He was in active duty in 1980-1989, as a tank driver. He received his honorable discharge as an E6.
God had other plans, in 1980 he became Senior Pastor at Christian Community Church in Birmingham, AL, where he was the devoted Pastor for 45 years. This past September, he celebrated his 45th Pastoral Anniversary.
Ed had Many jobs, he never just had one. He was employed with The United States Postal Service, Shelby County School System, City of Pelham, Riverchase Methodist Church, Riverchase Baptist Church and Columbiana Methodist Church. In 1991, God gave Ed the sign to start his own business, known as Jones Lawn Service. He was able to do what he loved, making yards beautiful and planting flowers.
He also coached City League Basketball in Columbiana. Ed was the neighborhood dad.
Everyone knew that his greatest job was being a husband, father, pop and being a Pastor.
Ed was united in holy matrimony to Vanessa Head Jones for 43 years.
He was preceded in death by his parent, Porter Jones Sr. and Princess Etta Jones
God called Ed home on October 14, 2025 at UAB Hospital.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted wife, Vanessa Head Jones of Columbiana, AL; one daughter, Racheal Rinalda Jones; one son, Timothy Lewis Jones both of Columbiana, AL; one grandson, Noah Israel Jones; two brothers, Porter Jones Jr., Willie Jones; three sisters, Callie Davis, Queen (Willie) Roper, Solonie Madison and a host of nephews and nieces.
