Queen Young Obituary

Queen Esther Valentine Young was born to Willie Thomas and Annie Queen Valentine on September 5, 1940, in Marvel, Alabama. She confessed Christ at an early age. She later joined Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in 1973 and was baptized under the leadership of Rev. W.T. Evans. In 2011, she moved her membership with her husband from Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church to Morning Star Christian Church under the leadership of Pastor Corey Salter. In January of 2022, her membership was moved to Gethsemane Christian Church still under the leadership of Pastor Corey Salter, where she was a member until God called her home.

Queen Esther attended the H.B. Davidson High School in Centerville, Alabama. She served as an Eastern Star for 55 years. During those years, she Walked the Star, was Associate Conductress, Conductress, Associate Matron and Worthy Matron for over 20 years.

Queen Esther worked at the University of Montevallo Dining Hall. She was well known for her words of wisdom, hospitality and nurturing hands. She never met a stranger. Friends and family knew exactly where to go for a home cooked meal filled with delicious food, love and laughter. You would often catch her at church on the front row rocking her stylish outfits with hats to match and singing praises to the Lord, until she was no longer physically able to attend. At that point you could catch her on her iPad attending virtually. Queen Esther served as a Seasoned Saint. She was also a part of the Gethsemane Christian Church Intercessory prayer ministry. She always willing to lend a listening ear and gave sound advice when needed. A Pastor once said you have no problem talking about what you love and for Queen Esther that was the Lord and her family.
