Obituary
Sadie Mae Burns was born on March 9, 1932, in Wilton, AL to the late Ocie and Ethel Hubbard Burns. She passed peacefully at home on May 24, 2022 with her family by her side. She confessed Christ at an early age. She joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Wilton, AL as a child and after moving to Montevallo she later united with Wards Chapel AME Church in her adult life where she was a faithful servant in the choir ministry, missionary ministry, and served as the President of the Stewart Board until she was no longer able to physically serve.
She was preceded in death by her late husband Paul James Blake and her life partner Samuel Lacey; brothers Ed and Alford Simmon; sisters Sarah Francis Lightsey and Flora James.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her only child, Ethel Blake Thompson, three stepsons Larry (Carolyn) Buckhannon, Kansas City, MO, Anthony and Randy Buckhannon of Alabaster, AL; two stepdaughters Carolyn Heard and Adeline Blake of Griffin, GA.; two grandsons, Kelvin (Sabrina) Thompson, Hope Mills, NC and Elvin (Valerie) Thompson, Augusta, GA.; one granddaughter, Joyce (Michael) Jones, Pelham, AL.; three step-grandchildren, Gloria Ford, Montevallo, AL, Charles Thompson, Columbus, GA, and Bernita Houser, Charlotte, NC.; one sibling, Corine Thorton, Bessemer, AL.; twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Viewing will be held Sunday, May 29, 2022 from 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. at The Good Shepherd.
A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, May 30, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at New Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Calera, AL with burial at Montevallo Cemetery in Montevallo.
