Sammy Collins Jr. affectionally known as “Lil Sam/Sammy" and " Jug" by his family and close friends was born on January 7, 1952, to the late Sammy Collins Sr. and Vinnie Woodson Collins of Alabaster, AL. He started his early education in the Alabaster School System. He was bused to Prentice High School in Montevallo, AL and bused back to complete his high school education at Thompson High School in Alabaster, AL. Sam went on to complete some college at
Alabama A&M in Huntsville, AL.
After leaving college, Sammy held numerous jobs in the Industrial Industry, including the lime and rock industry at Chemical Lime, now known as Lhoist of North America, where he retired from.
He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving wife of 17 years, Charlotte Lilly Ward of Montevallo, AL; a son,
Keith (Monica) Collins; granddaughter, Sydnei Collins of Bimingham, AL; two sisters, Beatrice Threatt of Atlanta, GA, Hallie Marie Cohill of Alabaster, AL; four bonus children, Myron (Toni) Lilly of Montevallo, AL, Marcus Lilly of Montevallo, AL, Andrea Lilly of Hoover, AL and Martell Lilly (whom preceded him in death); nephew, Jimmy Cohill of Alabaster, AL; nieces, Ann (James) Kirkland of Calera, AL, Teresa Tyus of Alabaster, AL; God daughter, Jelisa S. Washington of Phoenix, AZ; numerous grandkids, nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends. Special thanks to Jimmy Cohill for all of his support given before, during and after this difficult time.
