Superintendent Rozel Revell, Sr. Obituary

Obituary

Superintendent Rozel Revell, Sr

Rozel Revell, the third child of sixteen, was born on April 3, 1946, in Moultrie, GA, to Arthur and Vallie Revell.

At the age of eleven, he moved with his family to Manhattan, New York. By age 13, Rozel had distinguished himself as a provider and hard worker at Josephine’s Vegetable & Fruit Stand where he helped his mother to put food on the table for his seven brothers and eight sisters. Later, he graduated from George Westinghouse High School earning a vocational diploma in electronics.

Rozel was saved and filled with the precious Holy Ghost at the early age of 18 during a revival meeting where he initially laughed at the missionaries while listening to his transistor radio from the back pew. Shortly thereafter, Rozel met Naomi at Freewill COGIC, Brooklyn, New York, through his eldest sister, Hazel. It was love at first sight for him, as Naomi did not prefer a high-yellow man. However, through his persistency, he won her heart by taking her to church on a first date just two weeks later. Three months later with the approval of her father, they were engaged, and after a six[1]month engagement were married on December 17, 1966, As a couple, they joined Freewill COGIC, Brooklyn, NY, where he faithfully served as a deacon and youth minister. They later joined Emmanuel COGIC, Brooklyn, NY, where he served as an evangelist. However, in 1974, answering the call to serve family and church, he moved the family to Alabama to assist Superintendent David and Mother Gertrude Wren at Bessemer # 1 COGIC. While there, he served as evangelist and assistant pastor winning many souls to Christ while working with his own hands to assist in physically rebuilding the church. He was appointed to his first pastoral ship in Parrish, AL. Then he served as assistant pastor to Pastor John T. Rowe at Avenue M COGIC. In 1981, he was sent to Heavenly Places COGIC, where he faithfully served as pastor and spiritual father, until his transition, to many souls and ministries including nursing home, homeless, prison, childcare, mental health, radio/tv, educational/scholarship, food/clothing, housing, utility assistance, spiritual counseling, and family ministries. Also, during this time period, he served as District Chairman and District Superintendent of the Birmingham Ensley District (later changed to Birmingham Lincoln District, AL Second Jurisdiction) and Superintendent of the Higher Life District as well as Chairman of the Superintendents (AL Third Jurisdiction).

Rozel was preceded in death by his parents, Vallie and Arthur Revell, Sr., and siblings: Eddie; Lester; Christina; Mary; Arthur Jr., as well as Aunts and Uncles.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his sweetheart of 55 ½ years, Naomi Revell. His children: Linda Paul (d. Anthony Paul), Rozel Revell, Jr. (Sabrina), Edwin Revell (Antonia), and Takisha Revell. Grandchildren: Anthony Paul, Jr. (Valentina), Nathan Paul, Jonathan Paul, Edwin Revell, Jr., Mary Brittany Jackson (Montez), Vania Canady (Anthony), Zephaniah Revell, Rozel Revell, III (Fancy), Onesimus Collins, Micaiah Collins, and Charity.
