Obituary
Sylvester Mixon Sr. formally known as "Curly," some knew him as "Sly." was born on September 1, 1961, in Calera, Alabama to his mother, Pauline "Taylor" Mixon, and (deceased) father, Johnnie Mixon, Jr.
He leaves his loving mother, Pauline Taylor Mixon, ex-wife Conchetta Mixon Bevelle, four beloved children Bishop Sylvester Mixon, Jr., and daughter-in-love April Mixon, Justin Norris, Bianca Norris, Brent Norris, and O'Bryant Andrews. He leaves behind grandchildren Caleb Mixon, Joshua Mixon, Gracie Mixon, Alijah Silas, Jakayla Norris, Tatum Norris, Aaris Norris, Janae Norris, and Journey Norris. His Aunties, Margeret “Jean” Wilson, Ora D Besley, Essie Mixon Cardwell, and Uncles, Robert Mixon, and Wayne Mixon.
Sylvester attended Calera High School where he played on the football team. He loved building and racing cars as well as truck driving. He was a professional truck driver for forty-three years. He enjoyed hanging out and having many laughs with family and friends.
At an early age, he joined Grants Chapel AME Church, Calera, AL. Sylvester, later in life confessed Christ at Unity Christian Center, Alabaster, AL.
He leaves behind siblings Juanzetta Hunter of Patterson, CA, Philip Mixon of Bessemer, AL, Ricky Taylor of Calera, AL, Jackie Christie of Mobile, AL, and Linda Gail Desmond of Bessemer, AL. His sister Gwen Snell of Calera, AL preceded him in passing. He also leaves behind a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. As well as many close friends, a few being Hason and Dedra Munk, Charlotte Ward, and Marcus Lilly.
Viewing will be held Friday, May 19, 2023, from 4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. at The Good Shepherd.
The Homegoing Service will be held on Saturday, May 20th, at 11:00 a.m. at Unity Christian Center, 111 Edmondson Lane, Alabaster, AL 35007.
